Sensory & Relaxation Zone

Sensory & Relaxation Zone

Creating Calm, Connection & Meaningful Sensory Experiences

Our dedicated Sensory & Relaxation Zone at Park View Care Home is a unique, purpose-built space designed to support the emotional and sensory wellbeing of every resident.

Created through years of specialist insight into dementia and elderly care, this flexible environment allows residents to experience calming or stimulating multi-sensory sessions — helping to reduce anxiety, promote relaxation, and unlock powerful connections through sight, sound, touch, and smell.

Unlike many homes, our Sensory Zone is a fully immersive space — one that can be tailored to individual needs and preferences, providing true value for residents at every stage of their care journey.

Designed to Adapt & Support Individual Needs

Our Sensory & Relaxation Zone offers a wide range of experiences and is designed to be fully adaptable:
Visual experiences — gentle lighting, colour therapy, moving projections and visual effects
Touch & feel — a range of tactile objects and materials to explore
Aromatherapy — soothing scents to promote relaxation and trigger memory
Sound — calming music, nature sounds, personalised playlists
State-of-the-art interactive projectors — providing interactive sensory engagement through touch and movement
Flexible environment — the zone can be closed off when desired, creating a fully immersive, private sensory experience

This flexibility allows us to create tailored sessions — whether to help someone unwind after a busy day, to support residents with advanced dementia, or to offer a soothing break from sensory overload.

Why Sensory Experiences Matter in Dementia & Elderly Care

Sensory stimulation plays a vital role in supporting people living with dementia and other cognitive conditions. Our Sensory & Relaxation Zone helps to:
✅ Reduce agitation, stress and anxiety
✅ Promote emotional calm and comfort
✅ Stimulate memory and sensory pathways
✅ Provide positive experiences for those who may struggle with verbal or social interaction
✅ Support residents at more advanced stages of dementia where other forms of engagement may be more difficult

Crucially, this is not just a “nice to have” — it is a purposeful, well-researched element of Park View’s activities-based care model.

Personalised & Purposeful Use

Our team works closely with each resident — and their families — to understand individual preferences and needs. The Sensory Zone can be used in many ways:
✅ Gentle relaxation sessions to support sleep or calm
✅ Stimulating sensory play to promote engagement
✅ 1:1 therapeutic work for residents with complex dementia
✅ Group sensory experiences with calming visual and sound elements

The flexibility of the space — combined with advanced interactive technology — allows us to offer experiences that are genuinely tailored and meaningful.

A Valuable Resource for Families

Families are welcome to visit the Sensory Zone with their loved one, sharing in the experience or observing how these sessions can benefit wellbeing.

Many relatives tell us that seeing their loved one relaxed, smiling, and calmly engaged in the Sensory Zone is one of the most reassuring and joyful moments of their visit.

Part of Our Activities-Based, Person-Centred Home

The Sensory & Relaxation Zone is an important part of Park View’s activities-based, open-plan care model — reflecting our belief that every person deserves to experience
connection, calm, and joy at every stage of life.

We are proud to offer this unique space and the opportunities it provides to enrich the lives of our residents.
